Since the band isn’t “huge” most of the people present were actual fans that sought out their live show. They played at the Constellation Room at the Observatory in Santa Ana California, which meant there were maybe about 100 people in the room. You also get much more passion behind their music, because you know that they are playing the show because the absolutely love performing. They are a great band and more people should know about them but the benefit is smaller, more intimate live sets. Since 2011, the independent alt-rockers have slid below the radar of mainstream, both good and bad. Led by Nathan Nicholson on vocals/guitar, The Boxer Rebellion has released a total of four albums, two EPs, and has been featured on a plethora of television shows. Compared to bands such as Oasis and Sigur Ros, the band has attracted extensive critical success and acclaim throughout their career. This fan base has been bolstered by the use of the band’s music on TV shows such as “One Tree Hill”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Human Target”. The Boxer Rebellion has toured extensively throughout Europe and North America due to their varied fan base. Subsequent albums “The Cold Still” and “Promises” also did well with critics and fans alike. In 2009 the band released “Union” as a digital-only release and it got to number four on the UK iTunes album chart. Unperturbed the group has continued to tour and release material unsigned. Soon after this debut release, The Boxer Rebellion’s record label, Poptones, dissolved and the band found itself without a label. The album contained various tracks from the band’s first EPs and upon release it received extensive positive feedback from critics. In 2005 the band was finally able to release their debut album, “Exits”. “The Boxer Rebellion EP” was so successful that the band was invited to tour with The Killers, but a serious bout of illness for Nathan Nicholson meant that the band was unable to see this opportunity through. The opportunity to play at Glastonbury brought the band major attention and they were soon signed to Poptones, with whom they released their eponymous EP. The pair brought on the other members of the band and they soon began producing music together after choosing the name The Boxer Rebellion.įormed in London the group found their first supporters among British fans after opening for acts such as A Perfect Circle and Lenny Kravitz at various London venues. Founded by Americans and Brits, The Boxer Rebellion was formed 2001 when American singer Nathan Nicholson met former band member Todd Howe.
